Access to the service
The email inbox is set up for you with settings and is accessible with the university account. You can retrieve emails via the Outlook Web App, for example. The instructions for using the mailing lists can be found in the wiki instructions.

Description
When you are hired or enrolled at the University of Jena, you will receive a personal e-mail inbox with a university e-mail address. The university operates two e-mail systems: Webmail and Exchange. The Exchange mailbox allows you to use the Outlook Web App or other common email programs and has been set up as standard for all members of the university since February 2025. You can request the conversion of existing IMAP mailboxes (before February 2025) to Exchange.
You can also Mailing lists and mailing lists to send emails to larger groups of recipients. In mailing lists, you can compile your own list of recipients and receive a special e-mail address to send your e-mails to. Circular e-mails via mailing lists (Cumulus), which are sent to all students or employees of a faculty, for example, must be requested and approved.
If you want to bundle important information in a team, share tasks or share an e-mail address for business activities, then Functional accounts. These are comparable to your personal account, but are not personal and can be used by several people for certain activities (e.g. shared e-mail use in the secretariat, a project or a committee).

Good to know
Time and again, criminals send fraudulent emails, for example to install malware or to obtain your access data. To strengthen IT security, the University of Jena has therefore introduced the Online course "Recognizing and dealing with phishing emails"which all members of the university must complete.
For sending larger files where you cannot use e-mail, the temporary file upload available.
