Students of the University of Jena who do not have their own laptop or whose device is defective
Description
Students at the University of Jena can borrow a laptop free of charge for the duration of a semester, although the loan period can be extended if necessary. These are decommissioned and refurbished devices. The open operating system Ubuntu and basic application software are installed on each device. As soon as a suitable device can be made available, you will be notified by e-mail. Once the device has been returned, your stored data and installed programs will be deleted and the device will be refurbished so that it is once again available to other students.
The laptop lending scheme pursues the University of Jena's sustainability goals B.4.1 and B.4.2 by passing on fully functional devices in a way that conserves resources and promotes recycling.
Possible applications and technical functions
- Loan of a laptop for completing study-related work and for participation in online courses
- Provision of a laptop for students with limited financial resources
- Short-term help for students whose own laptop is defective
The aim is to support students in digital teaching regardless of their financial situation and to promote educational equality.
