About Moodle

For whom

Lecturers and students at the University of Jena and the UKJ as well as guests with guest access

Description

Moodle is a modular, adaptable software that supports studying and teaching, as well as work in research projects and at chairs and other organizational units. The system is suitable for supplementing classroom teaching, for blended learning, for distance learning courses, as a knowledge repository and as a communication and collaboration platform.

Moodle is a course-centered platform - each course has its own protected course room. Course information, lecturers and participants are matched with the Moodle course rooms via a connection to the Friedolin course catalog. Courses from Friedolin are automatically assigned a Moodle course room.

Possible applications and technical functions

Moodle courses can be set up and used extensively by teachers, e.g. role assignment for additional teachers, visual and structural design of the course with course formats or, if necessary, the enrollment of additional participants.

The following Moodle activities are available for the implementation of courses:

  • Communication: feedback, chat, forum, voting, survey
  • Collaboration and cooperation: board, database, wiki, office documents
  • Knowledge transfer: book, file, H5P, glossary, interactive content and media, lessons, OpenCast videos
  • Tasks, knowledge query, learning progress: Tasks, PDF annotation, quizzes, test, file submission, student folder
  • Course organization: fair distribution, group division, group selection, planner

Good to know

To carry out digital examinations, the University of Jena uses a separate Examination platform (Moodle) used.
